Effect of variation of environmental conditions on the microbial communities of deep-sea vent chimneys, cultured in a bioreactor ArchiMer
Byrne, Nathalie; Lesongeur, Francoise; Bienvenu, Nadege; Geslin, Claire; Alain, Karine; Prieur, Daniel; Godfroy, Anne.
Both cultivation and molecular techniques were used to investigate the microbial diversity and dynamic of a deep-sea vent chimney. The enrichment cultures performed in a gas-lift bioreactor were inoculated with a black smoker chimney sample collected on TAG site on the mid-Atlantic ridge. To mimic as close as possible environmental conditions, the cultures were performed in oligotrophic medium with nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon dioxide (N-2/H-2/CO2) gas sweeping. Also, the temperature was first settled at a temperature of 85A degrees C and colloidal sulphur was added. Then, the temperature was lowered to 60A degrees C and sulphur was omitted. Archaeal and bacterial diversity was studied in both culture and natural samples. Through 16S rRNA gene sequences...

Gas exchanges in annonaceae species under different crop protections Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Baron,Daniel; Ferreira,Gisela; Rodrigues,João Domingos; Macedo,Ana Claudia; Amaro,Amanda Cristina Esteves.
This study aims to investigate the gas exchanges of different species of Annonaceae due to environmental variations provided by different types of crop protection. 'Araticum-de-terra-fria', 'araticum-mirim', 'biribá' and atemoya seedlings were cultived in three different crop protections: nursery, greenhouse and warm house. Gas exchanges were obtained in six plants, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with IRGA, LI-6400, at 180 Days After Transplanting. The different types of crop protection had a direct influence on gas exchanges of these species. Thus, nursery provided suitable conditions for 'araticum-de-terra-fria', 'araticum-mirim' and 'biribá', increasing their gas exchanges. To atemoya the best crop protection was the greenhouse.

Influence of environmental conditions on early development of the hydrothermal vent polychaete Alvinella pompejana ArchiMer
Pradillon, F; Le Bris, Nadine; Shillito, B; Young, C; Gaill, F.
Dispersal and colonisation processes at deep-sea vents are still not fully understood, essentially because early life stages of vent species remain unknown. The polychaete worm Alvinella pompejana forms colonies on chimney walls at East Pacific Rise vent sites where the temperature can frequently exceed 20 degrees C. In vitro studies in pressure vessels showed that the early embryos tolerate temperatures in a lower range (10-14 degrees C), suggesting that they would have to escape the colony to develop. Pressure vessels offer the advantage that each parameter can be independently controlled, but they do not simulate the more complex and dynamic conditions naturally encountered at vent sites. Accordingly, in addition to incubations in pressure vessels, we...
